A mini-split system (also called a ductless mini-split) is a type of air conditioning and heating system that delivers comfort to one or more rooms without the need for ductwork.

How it Works:

  • Consists of an outdoor condenser unit and one or more indoor air-handling units mounted on walls, ceilings, or floors.

  • Refrigerant lines connect the indoor and outdoor units, transferring heat in or out depending on whether the system is set to cooling or heating.

  • Each indoor unit can be controlled individually, allowing for zoned comfort.

Advantages:

  • Energy-efficient since there are no ducts to lose cooled or heated air.

  • Flexible installation options, making them ideal for homes without ductwork or for room additions.

  • Provides both heating and cooling in one system (when it’s a heat pump mini-split).
