A hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant commonly used in residential and commercial air conditioning systems. R-410A replaced older refrigerants such as R-22 because it is more energy efficient and does not deplete the ozone layer. It operates at higher pressures than R-22, so HVAC systems using R-410A require specially designed components. While it is ozone-friendly, R-410A still contributes to global warming, and the industry is gradually transitioning to lower-GWP alternatives such as R-32.
