I was called to a home to inspect a problem with the air conditioning system. Upon arrival, I found that the system was cooling but the blower motor was running continuously. I inspected the thermostat and air handler unit (AHU) and found a defective blower motor. I informed the customer that they would need to replace the motor to resolve the issue. After replacing the motor, I tested the system and it was working fine. The customer was happy with the service and paid the $79 diagnostic fee with a credit card.

Customer called us out to take a look at his system. Upon investigation, Troy found that when turning on all the equipment, the air handler would not come on upon further investigation. Troy found the fuse to be intact and the transformer was transitioning from 240 over to 24 V so the cause of the non-operation was due to motor failure. Quarter to the customer on a warranty motor as the machine is only four years old and was registered at York told customer motor could take a few days to locate and put in as York only has one distributor.

Upon arrival system was running. Customer flicked the breaker a couple of times and got the system running. I found a loose red wire on the zone board. I kinda touched the wire and the system turned off. I tighten the wire and try to move the wire again and system did not turn off. I moneyed the system for a couple of minutes and system is running fine. I informed customer if keeps having same issue we will have the replace the zone board.

Upon arrival system was not on. I checked system and float switch was tripped. Water in float switch. I flushed drain line with vacuum and water hose. A lot of gunk came out. I was not getting a suction from the vacuum at the air handler. After I flushed drain line drain was getting great suction. Customer paid $79 service fee for today. Customer was fussing about the the price on the drain line treatment and that we have had to come out here a couple of times for the same issue. so I just charged him the service fee.

Performed maintained to unit. Inspected blower and coil. Made sure they were clean. Flushed drain line again pulled out a lot of gunk. Checked delta T and was pulling a 20 degree split. Rinsed off condenser coil with water hose. And inspected all electrical components. Did not come across anything at this time

Follow up visit from David. Upon investigation, Troy found the source of the leak was inside the evaporator coil. There was a very loud hissing noise coming from the evaporator coil area. I ran my sniffer over it and got some traces, but the main telltale here was the TXV lines were getting iced up and the rest of the coil was still lukewarm for about 10 minutes so the evaporator coil has the leak somewhere inside of it eternal internally possibly. “A customer on a new coil under warranty as the system is only five years old.

They have a pan under the unit and it has a lot of water also float switch had some water also drain line has a lot of gunk. Highly recommend for customer to do drain treatment. Upon arrival system was not cooling efficiently. I inspected unit and found system low on Freon. Customer does not want to proceed with leak search. He just wanted to add refrigerant for today. I went ahead and added 3 pounds of 410a and system is running and cooling great. Customer paid $450 for 3 pounds of 410 with card.

Customer had a set today because the system wasn’t cooling. Upon investigation Troy found that there was a significant leak in the coil. After trying to load some Freon, I observed that the sub cooling went up with the TXV valve on the suction side was significantly impeding any cooling from happening in the house as we are still getting 80° coming out of the vents Advised customer to replace the coil or at the age of the system replace it all together. After hearing the price of replacement for a Coyle, customer was more inclined to replace the unit altogether. Quoted him on two systems. I am delaying the $79 maintenance for now as he was 85% certain he was going to be replacing it all together.

Customer called us out to have us look at his system. His system was freezing up and his motor was not operating appropriately. I observed the motor and it was going back-and-forth and squeaking a lot which usually means that it is shot. I put my multimeter on the black wire and it wasn’t even drawing a single amp For a half horsepower. It should be somewhere between 4.8 to 9.8. I told the customer system is old and she really needs to consider purchasing a new unit. We are going to keep coming out here for the same issue. The unit is old and wires are old. Wires starts to loose resistance and start to crack over time and age. Customer would like a new system quote. If the issue happens again. I know the issue will happen again and if it does if possible please don’t send me back to this house. I kept explaining the customer what’s going on with the unit and she kept asking literally the same questions over and over. I did not install transformer.

Troy found that the motor had failed. I had tested the transformer on the inside and it was conducting energy properly.
